15 Jun Matthew Matthijs Honored As 4A State Player Of The Year!

Huge honor earned by MATTHEW MATTHIJS, as yesterday he was named the North Carolina Baseball Coaches Association 4A PLAYER OF THE YEAR! On the mound this season, Matthew sported an 8-1 record with 93K/28BB, allowed only 7 ER all year in 54 innings pitched and held opponents to a paltry .171 average......ctd...
At the plate, Matthew hit .373 with 5HR and 31RBI. What a year!
As I told him last week, this place will seem weird without Matthew in it, as he heads off to UNC-CH to begin his next chapter. We have had him in this building his whole playing life. And what an absolute pleasure it's been to get to spend thousands of hours watching him grow into the young man & player that he's become...and to have spilled so much sweat with him...especially considering the microscope that he has been asked to perform under for a very long time. He has shown others EXACTLY how to handle that microscope...which is, you just go work. Really proud of this award. He has EARNED anything he achieves. Can't wait to watch the next chapter. Congratulations to Matthew & his family!
